Research Associate
Job Description
We are seeking highly talented candidates to join our R&D team to help develop the next generation high-efficiency low-cost photovoltaic technology. We operate in a deadline driven and entrepreneurial environment. This is very much a hands-on position. Our Research Associates work closely with Scientists to implement experiments, optimize device fabrication processes, characterize materials, test devices, and to generally support the R&D team. You will be working in the lab 90+% of the time and will attend weekly R&D group and sub-group meetings where updates are given, research is discussed, and brainstorming is done.
Job Requirements/Responsibilities
- Excitement and curiosity for photovoltaics, science, and engineering in general
- Positive, go get’em attitude
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team while also able to work independently.
- Good oral and written communication
- Demonstrated academic or industrial performance
- Must be detail-oriented and able to follow specific directions on experiments, processes
- Use semiconductor processing equipment, mix solutions, characterize materials, test devices
- Keep a detailed lab notebook
- Report to senior members of team to update on that day’s/week’s tasks
Minimum Qualifications
- BS/BA in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering
- MS a plus
- Hands-on research and industrial experience ideal
- Experience with thin film deposition systems/processes, semiconductor device testing, and materials characterization a plus
Research Engineer – Chemical
Job Description
We are seeking an individual to provide engineering support for the SpectraWatt research and development team. Your primary role will be to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of R&D scientists engaged in developing control and measurement systems and procedures. Duties include instrumentation design and maintenance, calibration, design and production testing and scheduling, automated equipment functions, and report preparation. You will be working in the lab ~90% of the time and play a key role in the industrialization and optimization of lab scale chemistries and thin film deposition techniques.
Job Requirements/Responsibilities
- Hands on experience with setup and automation of chemical reactors.
- Experience with vacuum systems and control
- Experience with Labview programming
- Thin film processing / casting techniques (extrusion,lamination, etc)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team while also able to work independently.
- Good oral and written communication
- Demonstrated academic or industrial performance
- Must be detail-oriented and able to follow specific directions on experiments, processes
- Keep a detailed lab notebook

Research Engineer – Silicon PV
Job Description
We are seeking an individual to provide engineering support for the SpectraWatt research and development team. Your primary role will be to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of R&D scientists engaged in optimizing the optical and electronic properties of silicon based photovoltaic devices. Duties include design of experiment, data taking, instrumentation design and maintenance, calibration, design and production testing and scheduling, automated equipment functions, and report preparation. You will be working in the lab ~90% of the time and play a key role in the optimization of silicon based photovoltaic technologies.
Job Requirements/Responsibilities
- Hands on experience with silicon solar cell fabrication.
- Experience with 6" wafer processing. (i.e. screen printer, belt furnace, RTP, CVD, doping, tube furnace)
- Experience with standard suite of characterization tools (i.e. 4pt probe,optical microscope, profilometer, ellipsometer, solar simulator, EQE)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team while also able to work independently.
- Good oral and written communication
- Demonstrated industrial performance

Job Description
We are seeking an individual to provide engineering support for the SpectraWatt research and development team. Your primary role will be to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of R&D scientists engaged in one of three projects:
- Developing chemical reactors and optimizing research scale chemistries
- The optical and electrical properties of silicon based photovoltaic devices
- Photovoltaic materials processing, device fabrication and testing
Duties will vary by project. You will be working in the lab ~90% of the time. This is a full-time position.

- Use and modify thin film deposition and post-deposition processing equipment to optimize device performance
- Help develop characterization routines and methods for thin film layers, material interfaces and finished devices
- Involved in DOE of process experiments
- Involved in design/modification of experimental apparatus
- Coordinate with Technicians and Scientists to analyze and communicate experiments and results
