Representing Reality Conference Registration: Abstract Deadline Extended

Description:

The GIScience IGERT at the University at Buffalo is extending the call for abstracts for their conference, Representing Reality: Imagery in the Cognitive, Social and Natural Sciences to be held May 12-15, 2010 in downtown Buffalo, NY. This conference will address the theory and application of imagery across academic disciplines. In particular, this conference aims to attract Ph.D. students and faculty from IGERT programs, but also other multi-disciplinary researchers who incorporate innovative image resources into their research or address the conceptualization of reality as a digital format.

Deadline for submission of abstracts is February 21, 2010.

Additionally, we are excited to announce our keynote speaker, Dr. Mark Fonstad (Texas State). Dr. Fonstad’s recent work has focused on the high-resolution remote sensing of river habitats and hydrological work on the upcoming NASA SWOT satellite. Among his many accolades, Dr. Fonstad was recently appointed Environmental Sciences associate editor of the Annals of the Association of American Geographers. His presentation is titled “The Light Fantastic: GIScience and the Representation of Riverscapes.”

Funding support will be provided for 30 enrolled Ph.D. students to cover travel and conference expenses including registration, meals and lodging, and roundtrip transportation to Buffalo, NY. The funding application can be accessed through the conference website. For conference updates, please join our group at /member/groups/52.html.

Thank you and we hope to see you in Buffalo for Representing Reality!
