Busy April

Three COSI-IGERT students are presenting their thesis dissertations during the month of April. The first one will be Adam Urness, a student in the ECEE Department working in Prof. Robert McLeod group. Adam is one of the COSI fellows that made good use of the optional COSI’s International Rotation by spending three months last year in the Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology in Munich, Germany. The presentation of his Ph.D. dissertation, “Liquid Deposition Photolithography for Efficient Three Dimensional Structuring”, will take place in Room ECOT 831 of the Engineering Center at 1:30 pm.

The second to present his dissertation will be Kevin Dean, a Chemistry and Biochemistry student working with Prof. Amy Palmer. He will present his Ph.D. dissertation “Fluorescent Proteins: Spectroscopic Studies, Microfluidic Analysis, and Generation of Improved Variants”, on April 4th in Room JSCBB B331 of the Biofrontiers Building on East Campus at 2:30 pm.

The last one will be Ryan Lewis, an Applied Math student working with Prof. Gregory Beylkin. Ryan spent his COSI required Industrial Internship working during a whole summer for Schlumberger, in Houston, TX. His Ph.D. dissertation on “Nonlinear Approximations in Filter Design and Wave Propagation” will be presented on April 9th in Room ECOT 314 of the Engineering Center at 11 am.
