IGERT Trainee Video & Poster Competition 2013
Description:
We are pleased to announce the 2013 IGERT Video and Poster Competition that will be held May 21 – May 24, 2013 on IGERT.org. Winners will be announced May 24, 2013 and will be invited to visit NSF in Arlington, VA in early June to participate in an award ceremony.
NSF has sent emails to PIs and Program Coordinators asking each active IGERT program to submit a poster and video for the competition. Submissions can be from individual trainees or groups of trainees. A PI or project coordinator from each IGERT should respond to the survey in that email no later than February 19 by providing the name of the trainee from their IGERT who will be participating in the competition or who will be the team lead if your IGERT decides to have a group entry.
Eligibility: Each PI should select one trainee to be the primary presenter. Teams of trainees are eligible, but a lead team member must be identified. All active projects are eligible, both those still receiving funding and those with no cost extensions. However, the primary trainee presenting the poster must be funded during the current academic year. Only one poster/video presentation per IGERT project is allowed. Submissions must be new; resubmissions of previous competition entries are not permitted.
Format: Each trainee (or team) will be required to submit a 2-3 minute video as well as a poster entry. The poster should be aimed at a technically or scientifically literate audience, but not necessarily for experts in the research fields or disciplines highlighted in the poster. In contrast, the video should provide a more general introduction to the research and be geared toward a general, non-technical/non-scientific audience. Videos, posters, and presenter replies to judges’ queries will all be taken into account in the judging process. The poster plus the associated video will constitute a single entry and presentation, though each will be evaluated separately.
Prizes: Twenty-five presentations will be chosen as winners, each to receive a prize of $2,000. Twenty winners will be selected by IGERT faculty judges, four winners will be selected through IGERT community choice votes, and one winner will be selected by the general public. The 25 contestant winners will be announced May 24, 2013.
Please visit /competition2013/ for the complete details of the 2013 Poster Competition, including guidelines and video examples from last year’s awardees. All presenters will be sent detailed information about the competition by February 22.
