Drawing from various publications and my own research on solar-fuel production and solar-processing of materials, this presentation will take a look at long-term energy scenarios and make the case that combining solar power with simplicity might be the most sustainable and equitable solution to energy, security, climate and development issues. This is in contrast to the multitude of proposed business-as-usual technocratic solutions that will rely heavily on scarce minerals, complicated and costly technological innovations, largely centralized control and distribution systems, and exploitation and neglect of developing regions of the world.
