Visiting Lecturer at Vietnam Forestry University

Description

This fall I am a visiting lecturer at the Vietnam Forestry University in Hanoi, Vietnam! Teaching an introductory Geology course for 90 students in the Advanced Natural Resources Management curriculum in English has been an amazing and enlightening experience. Modeled after the program major of the same name at Colorado State University, this curriculum strives to challenge students by introducing guidelines and criteria typical to US programs, but quite different from Vietnamese programs. I have experimented with low-tech solutions to assess student comprehension during lectures and throughout the course. From this experience, I have learned how to better teach Vietnamese students and students who have English as a second language, and how to integrate methods typical of Vietnamese and US programs to create a more robust and unique learning experience for me and my students.
