IGERT Story

Sustainable wine industry

Description

UC Davis featured Mike Levy, a CCWAS IGERT trainee and Ecology graduate student, on the campus webpage. The story described Levy’s research on sustainability in the wine industry. Levy uses quantitative social science methods to understand what makes grape growers along California’s central coast adopt environmental practices.

“Economics are an important part of the picture,” he says, “but so are social and personal motivations." His work will help policy makers and outreach workers about how best to inform grape growers about practices that benefit human communities, the environment, and the bottom line.
