Trainee organizes audio live webinar

Joy Garnett, an IGERT trainee, organized an on campus event featuring an audio live webinar "Writing Successful Proposals: What's Working Now and What's Not?" from Dr. Charles Howard Jr from Principal Investigators Association. All of our IGERT trainees in addition to many other Vanderbilt graduate students participated. This provided exceptional added value to the understanding of how much students' success after graduate school depends on professional communication savvy as well as strong technical skills. A particular successful aspect of this event is that it enabled students to learn how to write compelling and scientifically sound grant proposals. Also, there was a chance to ask professors about their own professional grant writing experiences. This open and honest dialogue about grant writing between students and professors added to the lecture style of the audio webinar.
