Walker Hanlon, a fourth-year PhD, is interested in inequality and economic growth, immigration and demographics as well as transitional economies. His research has led him to an interesting finding that contrasts with the results published in leading papers. After analyzing the economies with cross-industry spillovers and variation in industry learning rates, Hanlon discovered that trade liberalization can result in both mutual dynamic growth gains, or mutual dynamic growth losses, depending on the structure of industry clusters in the industry.
