Trainee Achievements

Paper published in Journal of Neural Engineering

Trainee Laura Zitella (2nd-year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering) has had a first-author paper published in the Journal of Neural Engineering and featured on the cover of the journal. Fellow trainee Cory Gloeckner (2nd-year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering) is a co-author on this paper.

The paper describes a novel computational modeling approach coupling multi-compartment neuron models with finite element models of the electric fields induced during deep brain stimulation in the brainstem. The paper is significant as it provides for the first time a quantitative metric for understanding electrical stimulation within the brainstem. Since publication earlier this month, the article has over 100 downloads.
