Using marine spatial planning to guide offshore wind energy development siting decisions

Wallace, Allyn, Jaslanek, & McClellan have produced a paper on “Applying the marine spatial planning framework to guide offshore wind energy development siting decisions.” As a comprehensive ecosystem-based approach, marine spatial planning balances the interests of diverse groups of ocean users. Given that these competing interests drive many of the societal and ecological challenges facing offshore wind energy development siting decisions, they argue that using marine spatial planning to guide offshore wind energy development siting decisions will help meet any opposing societal, economic, and ecological goals and facilitate a more transparent and efficient siting decision process.
