Trainees, associates prepare Individual Development Programs

Each Trainee and Associate was guided through preparing an Individual Development Program (IDP) that will be revisited throughout the graduate student's career. The IDP helps the student develop goals (personal and professional) after graduate school, makes them aware of non-academic career paths and global opportunities, and helps identify the skills and training they should avail themselves of during graduate school in order to help them achieve their ultimate goals. Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, especially from students juggling a spouse and/or children with graduate school, who appreciated recognition of the need for work-life balance during their preparation time and not just when they start their career. Student also reported they appreciate the opportunity to align their career choices with not only professional values, but also personal traits like working habits and values.
