Fellow wins 2012 New Venture Competition

Materials doctoral student and IGERT Fellow James Rogers won the 2012 New Venture Competition, hosted by UCSB's Technology Management Program, and received a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Exploration (GCE) grant of $100,000 for his venture aPEEL Technology. The GCE grant program "funds innovative ideas to tackle key global health and development problems." The venture aPEEL Technology uses natural plant extracts that create an ultrathin preservation barrier that can be applied to fruits and vegetables.
