Internships facilitate international research collaborations

IGERT sponsored internships have facilitated international research collaborations among scientists from different disciplines. IGERT Fellow Peter Burks collaborated with researchers in Denmark and China. At the University of Coppenhagen, Peter worked with researchers Johannes Dethlefsen and Anders Dossing on lanthanide modification of CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots. At the Suzhou Institute for Nanotech and Nanobionics in Suzhou China, he collaborated with Prof. Jinping Zhang to characterize upconverting nanoparticles that had previously been made by collaborators in the US. This work was published in the 2012 issue of the Journal of Amer. Chem. Soc. [P.T. Burks, A.D. Ostrowski, A.A. Mikhailovsky, E.M. Chan, P.S. Wagenknecht, and P.C. Ford. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2012, 134, 13266.]
