Implications of climate change to social-ecological systems of Alaska

The Resilience & Adaptation Program (RAP) has sought to understand the implications of climate change to social-ecological systems of Alaska. Student research has addressed research with transdisciplinary lenses and through a variety of projects. Together, student research has contributed to our greater understanding by accounting for the effects of climate change on ecosystem services in rural villages, developing methods for integrating local and traditional knowledge with science of climate change, and identifying the economic, social, and institutional barriers of village relocation due to thawing permafrost. These ideas will be presented at a student-led and interactive session on “Pathways to Resilience in Alaska” at the Resilience 2014 conference.
