Trainees continue to refine 3rd Grade Energy and Electricity Workshop

The success of the 3rd Grade Energy and Electricity Workshops at Bartle Elementary School in Highland Park, NJ, now in their second year, is largely a result of the development, refinement and presentation of a series of demonstration stations that were created by the IGERT trainees. Virtually all trainees have been involved in some aspect of the workshops which serve approximately 120 third grade students in the Highland Park School District, a NJ Title I district. The stations included demonstrations for electricity from wind, water and solar sources. The Trainees have continued to refine the stations following successive workshops to appropriately target the abilities and hand skills of 8 and 9 year-old students. The popularity and success of the workshops has led to a series of recent articles in the NJ media highlighting the collaboration of Rutgers and Princeton with the Highland Park School District.
