Spring Seminar series a continued success

The IGERT Spring Seminar series has become a successful fixture of our program. As in years past, the trainees have chosen, invited and hosted speakers from across the nation to speak in a small forum about their research. This year, all invited speakers responded positively so that the seminar series was oversubscribed! One of this year's highlights was a lunch time conversation with Prof. Francis Barchi, School of Social Work at Rutgers and Senior Fellow in the Institute for Women and Leadership Consortium Initiative on Women and Health, whose research focuses on women's health issues in southern Africa. Dr. Barchi, who is also wife of Rutgers president Robert Barchi, shared her experiences in Africa with IGERT trainees who discussed their experiences in their recent trips to Ethiopia and South Africa, creating a lively discussion about global communication, goals for social improvement, education and engineering.
