CSCS offers its first two undergraduate courses

We are pleased with our trainee educational achievements this year. The Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) offered its first two undergraduate courses in Fall 08. The first, called "Applied Complex Systems: Emergent Challenges" attracted 28 students, many of whom are new to the field and enthusiastic about complex systems. One of our trainees, Jon Zelner, helped develop the course and served as the TA for it. The course is being funded by a $150,000 grant from the University of Michigan Office of the Provost. We believe UM provided the grant, in part, due to our IGERT program. The course also attracted attention from The Teaching Company which created a video called "Teaching Complex Systems" based on the course. The video has sold over 10,000 copies.
