Trainee completes internship at Weyerhaeuser

Sarah Wilson (ICE IGERT trainee, chemical engineering) completed a fall internship at Weyerhaeuser in Tacoma, WA, where she assisted with the characterization of Loblolly pine embryonic suspensor masses. At Weyerhaeuser, Sarah developed techniques to monitor cell growth and development to aid in quality control of multiple bioreactor systems. This opportunity enabled Sarah to gain experience in an industrial research setting, while helping to further her knowledge on large scale processing and characterization of plant cell culture. In addition, the work furthered an ongoing collaboration between the Roberts lab and the research and development team at Weyerhaeuser. Sarah is now working on grant proposals to the NSF and DOE to extend the collaboration.
