Trainee William Platten works under Dr. Makram Suidan in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. His work involves studying the removal of hormones, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides from sewage using a Biomass Concentrator Reactor (BCR). William recently presented his research to the USEPA and an industry representative who are thinking of commercializing the BCR design. Additionally, he was asked by the USEPA to write a paper on his research for submission in a special issue of the journal, Membranes, called “Membranes in Water Purification” and is being considered for a presentation at the Euromembrane Conference in London, England this September.
