Interdisciplinary mentoring leads to StochKit2 project

IGERT Trainee Kevin Sanft gained mentoring skills in his work with Arya Pourzanjani, an undergraduate student with double major of computer science and statistics. Arya’s current project is implementing the Next Reaction Method (NRM) version of Gillespie’s Stochastic Simulation Algorithm (SSA) in StochKit2. His goal is to modify the automatic SSA method selection algorithm in StochKit2 to include Arya’s NRM implementation. To accomplish this, he will collect simulation performance data for a suite of models of various sizes using different simulation methods. From this data, he will determine the regions in which the NRM performs best. Arya and Kevin anticipate writing up their findings and submitting them to an undergraduate research journal or conference. In the future, Arya plans to extend his work and implement Anderson’s Modified Next Reaction Method and a sensitivity analysis solver in StochKit2.
