Internships provide collaborations and experience

UCR's ChemGen IGERT program fosters trainee development and success through internships. Although not mandatory, 15 of 22 of our Fellows and one Associate conducted an internship. Fellows that declined an internship attended an additional meeting. Since June 2011, five fellows completed internships. In every case an internship plan and terminal accomplishment report were produced. Through internships our trainees built relationships and cultivated collaborations with exceptional scientists at diverse locations (Max Planck Institutes, Utrecht U, Cambridge U, Salk Institute, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, UC San Francisco, UC Irvine, U of Texas, Michigan State U, Cornell U). Trainees benefited from on-site mentoring, exposure to expertise and specialized equipment. Research accomplished and techniques learned benefited UCR laboratories through dissemination and the adoption of new methods and ideas. Several internships resulted in publications.
