Characterizing saturated sands and gravels

IGERT SmartConstruction trainees and faculty are working to characterize saturated sands and gravels for various applications, e.g., underwater soil compaction. Lab testing and modeling are being used to characterize coupled soil-water interaction, and induced electrical response. Results were presented in poster format at the 2012 Conference on Earth and Energy Research (CEER). IGERT SmartConstruction trainees and faculty are also working on policy research to characterize pathways by which technologic innovation diffuses within the US Public Highway Construction Industry. Preliminary interviews were performed, and results were presented at CEER. IGERT SmartConstruction trainees and faculty working on soil compaction material characterization via machine integrated contact stress measurements. Laboratory and modeling experimentation was performed and results were presented at CEER, receiving 1st place within the Mechanical Engineering Department.
