Trainees study abroad in Germany

Sustainable Grid IGERT Trainees participated in a customized research experience in Munich, Germany in Summer 2011. IGERT trainees Hunter Estes, Greg Dahlberg, David Tuttle, and Akshay Sriprasad spent 7 weeks in Munich. The study abroad experience fostered relations between the UT Austin and the Technical University of Munich (TUM), provided insight into the sustainable grid situation in Europe, introduced students to research ideas in a new, informal setting, and enriched their lives through cultural exchange. Students were hosted by Professor Werner Lang (Department of Architecture, TUM); they lived in apartments near the city center and experienced Bavarian culture in addition to professional outings and meetings. A final report on the experience appears here. One outcome of the visit: Prof. Christoph Weber (U of Duisberg), came to Austin and gave a seminar on efficient storage capacity.
