Spread of rinderpest in the US

IGERT trainee Carrie Manore (Mathematics) completed and published a paper co-written with colleagues from Los Alamos on the spread of rinderpest in the United States that confirms the importance of geography in the spread of a virulent livestock disease. With her advisor Vrushali Bokil and other IGERT collaborators in Zoology (including IGERT trainee Sean Moore) she also finished a paper on the spatial spread of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus in grasslands, showing that the timing of disease invasion and host composition of patches can significantly affect the ability of BYDV and the accompanying invasive annual grass species to invade.
