IGERT training expands career options

By the end of the 2008-09 academic year, 20 IGERT trainees will have Ph.D.s in science and social science fields. Their interdisciplinary training has helped to expand postgraduate career options. Nine alumni are teaching at top universities including Yale, Temple, Georgia Tech, Emory, and UC Berkeley. Six alumni are performing postdoctoral research, and three are in policy careers at Brookhaven National Lab, the Department of State, and the World Bank. The interdisciplinary training and experiences trainees received in the program and the networking opportunities provided has facilitated recognition of their work by a broad audience of academics, scientists and policymakers. The growing respect for their scholarly expertise is evident in the number of publications and talks in this award period. This year, trainees have authored 34 journal articles, 2 books, 3 book chapters, 26 conference presentations, and 18 conference publications. A number of other manuscripts are under review.
