Achievement

IGERT trainee Nat Dyment, working with IGERT co-PI David Butler, has been an instrumental part of an interdisciplinary team that was recently awarded a major 5-year award of a NIH Bioengineering Research Partnership (BRP grant AR56943-01) that focuses on understanding molecular signals expressed during normal tendon development and to apply this knowledge to deliver MSC-collagen scaffold constructs to further improve tendon repair in the adult. A collaborator is Chris Wylie from the Division of Developmental Biology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Nat is serving as a key liaison to bridge together the skills of the two laboratories (Children's and UC). His expertise in materials is proving useful as the group brings collagen scaffold fabrication techniques into their laboratory.
