Achievement

Christina Salas completed a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2008 and subsequently began a PhD in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Orthopaedic Biomechanics. In the Spring of 2009 she was offered an unpaid internship at the University of California, San Francisco Biomechanical Testing Facility. Given the high cost of living in San Francisco, the IGERT program stipend was essential to enable Christina to collaborate on interdisciplinary research at one of the top biomechanical testing facilities in the country. Christina was the Project Manager of an acetabular (hip) fracture research project. The objective of the study was to examine the incidence of joint subluxation during sit-to-stand motion and toe-off phase of the gait cycle following treatment of transverse and posterior wall fractures of the acetabulum.
