Annual evaluation of trainee progress

The doctoral program in wind science and engineering has recently implemented an annual evaluation process of each student enrolled in the program in order to check their development and progress toward graduation. The curriculum committee for the program consists of IGERT PI Dr. Mehta and Co-PIs Drs. Smith, Basu, and Ewing. This committee created a rubric based on six headings: research tools acquired to accomplish research, knowledge acquisition, dissertation topic and qualifying exam, knowledge production, knowledge dissemination, and service to the program and other students. In our inaugural trial of this evaluation process, other students and IGERT trainees Dannemiller, McNeill, Pattison, Wayne, and Widmer were all evaluated by two to three faculty members based upon the rubric. All students were seen to be on track to graduate and students also received suggestions for areas of improvement.
