Achievement

The program launched the year with a special symposium to mark the release of IGERT PI William Julius Wilson's latest book, More than Just Race. This event, which drew ~125 attendees, featured a lively discussion designed to highlight the book's significance and points of debate for a broad multidisciplinary audience. IGERT trainees then joined faculty in a more in-depth dinner discussion with panelists immediately following. Similarly, an ambitious seminar series this year enriched IGERT participants' exposure to important research advances outside their disciplinary field from a diverse array of national scholars (21 of 24 from other universities). Extensive interaction with IGERT trainees, in both the proseminar class, where visitors critique a student paper/presentation, and in smaller dinner groups, was again a central objective of these visits.
