Writing an IGERT Proposal

New Innovation Thrust and Competitive Innovation Incentive Fund

  1. How should the Competitive Innovation Incentive Fund be used?
This fund may be used to support prototype development of a device, interactions with an institution's technology transfer office, or even collaborations with government bodies or countries that would be recipients of research outcomes such as conflict resolution. The focus of the fund is to investigate implementation processes that usually exist in between discovery and outright commercialization.

  2. Are multiple applications appropriate for an innovation thrust?
A proposal would be certainly stronger if a discovery had several applications and trainees explored one or several of them, as long as disciplinary depth is not sacrificed for breadth. There are many aspects to innovation, and a proposal should reflect applications that are appropriate to a chosen theme.

  3. Is there an annual minimum for the Competitive Innovation Incentive Fund?
There is no minimum amount that must be allocated each year, but we strongly encourage the use of this allocation to advance the innovation thrust of the IGERT.
