Mary Margaret Fonow
I am the Director of the School of Social Transformation which focuses on diversity, justice and social change. We were given permission by the Provost to plan graduate and undergraduate certificates in disability studies. Beginning in Spring 2012 we will offer three new courses on the social and cultural dimensions of disability; SST 294 Disability, Justice and Advocacy, SST 394 Gender and Disability, and SST 591 Social Construction of Disability within the U.S. Educational System. The School also houses the Equity Alliance at ASU which provides national leadership, research and training in creating culturally responsive and inclusive education for children with disabilities. The center is co-directed by Alfredo Artilies and Elizabeth Kozleski international experts in the field of special education. They are the co-editor of a new book series at Teachers College Press on “Disability, Culture & Equity”.
