Alexis Walker is Professor and chair of the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences at Oregon State, where she holds the Petersen Chair in Family Gerontology. She is interested in how daily life experience in families is stratified by age, gender, and generation and in the structural influences that shape the role of race and socioeconomic status in family life. She has published numerous articles on gender and family ties and on the relationships between aging mothers and adult daughters. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health. She was president of the National Council on Family Relations and editor of the Journal of Marriage and Family.
