About Me

I am an ecologist studying how changes in one ecosystem affect connected ecosystems using the effects of canopy change due to the hemlock woolly adelgid on stream water quality as a study system. Specifically, I am looking at macroinvertebrate community composition dynamics as hemlock canopy is removed and replaced by hardwoods and rhododendron. I’m also using this system as a case study to try and get a grasp on just how detailed ecological models need to be in order to make accurate predictions about biota (e.g. we don’t need to model quantum effects, but do we need diurnal photosynthetic changes?)
