About Me
I am the Director of the Center for Urban Environmental Research and Education and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UMBC. I teach classes hydrology and environmental modeling. I am the PI of the UMBC “Water in the Urban Environment” IGERT project which is now entering its 4th year. My current research, supported by NSF and NOAA, involves developing an end-to-end system to quantify the urban water budget through sensor networks, wireless communication, mathematical modeling, visualization, and collaboration with geographers to couple with urban growth modeling. I also a co-PI on the Baltimore Ecosystem Study LTER and host the BES LTER field headquarters at UMBC. My academic training is in groundwater hydrology.
For fun, I am an avid gardener, old-house restorer, and enjoy taking ballet classes to stay in shape. I have one cat daughter (Sophie) and a German husband (Axel), who recently retired.
