Molecular Engineering of MicroDevices

Achievement/Results

The Center for Entrepreneurship at OSU’s Fisher College of Business at Ohio State is led by Dr. Michael Camp and his industrial executive mentors. Dr. Camp was named one of the nation’s top entrepreneurship professors in September 2007 by FORTUNE Small Business magazine. His Capstone two-course sequence evaluates the commercial potential and develops a “go-to-market” strategy for commercialization through new ventures. He has used emerging devices and technologies from the prior OSU IGERT award Molecular Engineering of MicroDevices as some of the portfolios under study in the courses. As one outcome of this process, two former IGERT trainees are now commercializing a technology that offers a less expensive, more accurate device to replace mammography. Patents are pending for the product, which combines conductive polymers (Epstein) and a suite of other OSU technologies. The new company, Traycer Diagnostics, has acquired start-up funding as well as space in a nearby state-sponsored business incubator.

Address Goals

The development of an affordable and accurate device to replace expensive mamography has huge potential in the early detection of breast cancer.
